July 2019 - Carla Johnson and Pam Humphrey discuss new information related to SPP Indicator 14, and the new data collection process in the Texas Student Data System(TSDS).

What is up with State Performance Plan Indicator 14

About SPP Indicator 14 of the SPP requires that data be collected annually from students receiving special education services prior to graduation from high school and with a follow-up survey one year after graduation. Data collected focuses on enrollment in higher education, competitive employment, other post-secondary education or training and other employment. The primary purpose is to provide a clear measure of post-school results of youth with disabilities as they transition from high school to adult life.

    Indicator 14
Percent of youth who are no longer in secondary school had Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in effect at the time they left school and were:
    A. Enrolled in higher education within one year of leaving high school.
    B. Enrolled in higher education or competitively employed within one year of leaving high school.
    C. Enrolled in higher education or in some other post-secondary education or training program; or competitively employed or in some other employment within one year of leaving high school.”

    Data Collection Procedures

Each year, school districts in Texas collect information from exiting high school seniors about their plans for after graduation.  This information is used by the TEA to collect data from students one year after graduation through a sampling process.  The results of data collected for this indicator are reported in the Annual Performance Report.
