Charter Schools
ESC Region 11 provides professional development, technical assistance, and management of educational programs to 17 public charter districts and over 100 charter campuses.
By definition, charter schools are a type of public school that provide education through a type of charter contract granted by a chartering entity such as the commissioner of education, State Board of Education (SBOE), or the board of trustees of an independent school district.
Charter schools are established under a "charter" or contract which outlines the school's mission, goals, and methods of operation. These schools are designed to provide more flexibility in how they operate as compared to traditional public schools, in exchange for increased accountability for student outcomes. They receive public funds, but unlike traditional public schools they may also receive private donations.
Region 11 charter local education agencies (LEAs) are listed with their district office contact information and a link to their website with a complete listing of schools. (Although some charter LEA district offices are located outside the Region 11 area, they have campuses within our region.)
