What is ADSY PEP?

Additional Days School Year – Planning and Execution Program (ADSY PEP) is a grant initiative that supports districts in strengthening the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of ADSY programming using research-based practices.

ADSY PEP is grounded in lessons learned from the National Summer Learning Project (NSLP), a multi-year initiative funded by The Wallace Foundation, which examined how well-designed additional learning time can positively impact student outcomes. These lessons inform the planning tools, supports, and expectations embedded within ADSY PEP.

Districts awarded the ADSY PEP grant receive structured planning support, technical assistance, and professional learning aligned to TEA expectations and research on effective additional school time. Local Education Agencies (LEAs) interested in applying for the ADSY PEP grant can learn more on the TEA Learning Acceleration Support Opportunities (LASO) page

Program Highlights

Over the course of the grant cycle, participating LEAs engage in a structured planning and implementation process designed to support high-quality ADSY programming. Districts are supported as they develop, implement, and refine program elements aligned to ADSY PEP success criteria.

Key components of ADSY PEP support include:

  • Peer learning communities with district leaders from across Texas
  • Targeted professional learning on planning, design, and implementation
  • Ongoing technical assistance, feedback, and coaching delivered through regional Education Service Centers
  • Access to evidence-based planning tools and resources aligned to effective additional school time practices
  • Opportunities for reflection and continuous improvement throughout the cycle

Program Benefits

ADSY PEP supports districts in designing additional instructional time that is intentional, engaging, and aligned to student needs. Research and program evaluation findings show that well-implemented ADSY PEP programs can support academic growth in reading and math while also improving student engagement and perceptions of extended learning opportunities.
