National Board Certification

teacher in class

ESC Region 11 has adopted a new approach to National Board Certification support to better serve our districts.

Shifting from a cohort-based model to a consultant-driven framework, we empower districts with the autonomy, tools, and guidance needed to build and manage their own teacher cohorts.

The ESC Region 11 consultant model offers:

  • Tailored Guidance: Our expert consultants collaborate directly with district leaders to design customized cohort structures that align with specific goals and needs.

  • Comprehensive Support: We provide ongoing assistance throughout the certification journey, including professional development, statewide mentorship programs, and technical resources.

  • Capacity Building: By equipping districts with the tools and knowledge to manage their own cohorts, we foster sustainable professional growth and leadership from within.

  • Structured Timeline Implementation: To help candidates stay on track, we assist districts in developing a detailed timeline of key milestones and events, ensuring a clear and organized path toward certification success.

The new model reflects our commitment to enhancing teacher effectiveness and retention by enabling districts to take the lead in supporting their educators' pursuit of National Board Certification.

National Board Certification is the most respected professional certificate available in education and provides numerous benefits for teachers, students, and schools. It was designed to develop, retain, and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide. To learn more, visit the National Board Certification site.

What does the research say? Studies have shown that National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) have been shown to positively impact student achievement, and those impacts are even more pronounced for students from low socio-economic backgrounds. To learn more about what the research says, review this impact brief from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

National Board Certification and TIA - Eligible National Board Certified Teachers may earn a recognized designation and generate an allotment for their district in April following their successful certification. Learn more on the TEA Teacher Incentive Allotment page.

Additional Candidate Support Options

While ESC Region 11 provides district-level consulting and guidance, we recognize that candidates may seek additional external support. We recommend, but do not officially endorse, the following National Board Certification support providers:
