ESC Region 11 is proud to celebrate Mary McMinimy, Academic Life Skills teacher at Flower Mound High School in Lewisville ISD, on being named one of six finalists for the 2027 Texas Teacher of the Year by the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA).
McMinimy advanced to the statewide competition after being named the 2026 Region 11 Secondary Teacher of the Year, earning the opportunity to represent educators from across North-Central Texas at the state level.
On August 18, a panel of judges composed of representatives of Texas teacher associations and the previous year’s Texas Teacher of the Year finalists selected the six finalists from the 40 Regional Teachers of the Year representing the 20 Texas Education Service Center regions.

McMinimy serves the students at Flower Mound High School by teaching in both Academic and Functional Life Skills settings. Throughout her career, she has focused on helping students with significant cognitive disabilities build independence, confidence and meaningful connections through intentional instruction and real-world learning experiences.
Since 2022, McMinimy has also served as the Life Skills Department Chair, working closely with teachers and paraprofessionals to support student growth and independence. Her approach is grounded in strong relationships, inclusive practices, collaboration and a belief in helping every student reach their full potential.
Beyond her classroom and department leadership, McMinimy has been a longtime advocate for inclusion and connection. She co-sponsors the Circle of Friends Club at Flower Mound High School and has served on its board for more than a decade, helping create opportunities for students to build friendships and foster a stronger sense of belonging.

McMinimy began her career after earning a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas Woman’s University and completing the Texas Teachers Alternative Certification Program in 2016. She holds certifications in Special Education, Core Subjects and English as a Second Language.
Her recognition as a finalist for Texas Teacher of the Year reflects the lasting impact of her work both inside and outside the classroom. Through her dedication to students, collaboration with colleagues and commitment to inclusive learning opportunities, McMinimy continues to demonstrate the difference an exceptional teacher can make in the lives of students and their families.
TASA will select the 2027 Texas Teacher of the Year from the six finalists. ESC Region 11 congratulates McMinimy on this outstanding achievement and is proud to see our Region 11 Secondary Teacher of the Year continue representing the educators and students of our region at the state level.
