Statewide SLP Webinar #1: If Dismissal Is the Answer, What Questions Should We Be Asking?

One of the most complex situations for a school-based speech-language pathologist is determining when to dismiss a student from services, particularly when the data is not clear and concise. In this session, participants will explore how to accurately determine the reasons for lack of student progress, how to write SMART goals for data collection that will lead to clear, concise outcomes, and how to explain dismissal to staff and parents for a more collaborative, mutually understood outcome.

Statewide SLP Webinar #3: Beyond Requesting – Using AAC Throughout the Day

This session will be a fun, interactive, and fast-paced learning experience on utilizing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). In this session, participants will discuss how to take the tried and true, relevant goals of: "expanding MLU", "using a variety of communication intents", "demonstrating an understanding & use of age-appropriate vocabulary", "asking 'wh' questions", and "demonstrating phonological awareness" from goal to reality. Participants will discuss evidence-based practices, current research, service delivery models, and training educators on the use of AAC. This session will provide practical ideas that you will be able to use immediately in your speech and language therapy sessions, and all modalities of language, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing will be covered!
Statewide SLP Webinar #4: AAC Assessment After Device Selection

Most of what has been written about augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) assessment focuses on the selection of AAC apps, software, and devices. While it is essential to do those evaluations well, AAC assessment after device selection is equally as important. In this webinar, participants will discuss the need for increased stakeholder involvement in the planning process, outline AAC Fair Testing Practices, which can be used as a blueprint for testing in clinical and academic settings, and discuss the use of language sampling and data logging. Participants will also gain insight into strategies for observational assessments, formal testing, and the use of informal protocols. The session will conclude with a discussion on interpreting, disseminating, and utilizing assessment results.
Statewide SLP Webinar #5: SI Legal and Ethical Updates

This session will provide the most current information regarding legal issues that specifically affect the SLP in daily job activities. The training is designed to prepare participants to deliver the speech-language pathology services in their school districts based on the most current legal state and federal framework, IDEA, ESSA, and the Texas Commissioner's Rules be included in the discussion of current legal requirements. Legal briefs & court decisions involving current legal regulations will be reviewed.
Statewide SLP Webinar #6: Diagnosing and Treating Articulation and Phonological Disorders in the Schools

The teenage years bring unique challenges for children who stutter and the clinicians who serve them! This presentation will discuss ways to help middle-school and high-school students face the difficult situations that are common for this age. Topics will include communicating in social situations and in the classroom, coping with negative reactions by peers (such as bullying), and learning to accept themselves as people who stutter as they focus their attention on successful and effective communication as the ultimate goal of speaking.

This presentation will give speech-language pathologists the knowledge and confidence to use qualitative assessment measures in their comprehensive evaluation process in order to meet legal requirements, professional standards, district, and community needs.
