Accountability Information  

Accountability Academic Excellence Indicator System Reports (AEIS)The AEIS reports pull together a wide range of information on the performance of students in each school and district in Texas every year. These reports are posted online in the fall.

Accountability RatingsTexas annually rates its public schools and districts on the academic performance of their students.

Adequate Yearly Progress Under the accountability provisions in the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, all public school campuses, school districts, and the state are evaluated for Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). The state plan for meeting federal AYP requirements and related information are available online.

Alternative Education Accountability (AEA) Under the state accountability system, alternative education campuses have the option to be evaluated under alternative education accountability (AEA) procedures and receive accountability ratings based on different performance standards and indicators/measures than those used for regular campuses.

Blue Ribbon Schools The Secretary of Education has established the No Child Left Behind -- Blue Ribbon Schools Program to recognize and present as models those elementary and secondary schools in the United States that make significant progress in closing the achievement gap or whose students achieve at very high levels.

District and Campus Planning and Decision Making Resource Guide A resource to school districts seeking ways to implement and maintain effective district- and campus-level planning and decision making, and to provide technical support by outlining the current state and federal requirements pertaining to many areas of district and campus responsibilities.

Division of Accountability Research The Division of Accountability Research publishes annual reports on secondary school completion and dropouts, grade-level retention, college entrance examinations (SAT and ACT), and Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate examinations, and a biennial report on enrollment trends. The division also publishes the Comprehensive Annual Report to the legislature on Texas public schools. In addition, the division is responsible for governance of data submissions to the Texas Education Agency.

Dropout Prevention Clearinghouse Information on effective dropout prevention programs and practices, availability of funding for dropout prevention and recovery programs, and other related resources for enabling local schools to implement effective dropout prevention and recovery efforts and help all students to earn a high school diploma.

Performance Reporting Division
Performance Reporting is responsible for determining district and school accountability ratings as well as Gold Performance Acknowledgments. It also produces the Academic Excellence Indicator System (AEIS) reports, Snapshot, Pocket Edition, and the School Report Card.

Performance-Based Monitoring The Division of Performance-Based Monitoring is responsible for developing performance-based indicators and elements that will facilitate a coordinated approach to the monitoring of local education agencies. The specific functions of the division include developing indicators, reviewing district and campus performance data, identifying risk areas, and coordinating with other agency divisions to ensure the effective implementation of a data-driven, risk-based monitoring system focused on improving student performance.

Research and Evaluation Division (now Division of Accountability Research)

School Board Member Training
The State Board of Education (SBOE) shall adopt a framework for governance leadership to be used in structuring continuing education of school board members. The continuing education required applies to each member of an independent school district board of trustees. The continuing education requirement consists of orientation sessions, an annual team building session with the local boards and the superintendent, and specified hours of continuing education based on identified needs. The continuing education sessions may be provided by ESCs or other registered providers.

School Report Cards The School Report Cards provide a subset of the information available in the AEIS reports on the performance of students at public schools.

Status Report on Accreditation, Interventions, and Sanctions The Department of Support Services is responsible for periodically preparing a report to reflect the total number of school districts and charter schools in each of the accreditation status ratings. The report also lists school districts, campuses, and charter schools whose accountability ratings indicate low performance. Additionally, sites that are assigned monitors, conservators, or other interventions are addressed in some detail.

Texas Successful Schools Award System (TSSAS) The Texas Education Code (TEC), Section 39.092, provides for financial awards to schools that have demonstrated the highest levels of sustained success or the greatest improvement in achieving the education goals.
