TASA Midwinter Conference 2012 Commissioner's Speech

TASA Midwinter Conference 2012 Commissioner's Speech During the TASA Midwinter Conference, Commissioner of Education Robert Scott delivered an inspiring speech regarding the issues educators and our children experience with our current and future accountability system. His tone displays his disappointment as he discusses the financial cuts received by TEA and especially the service centers. He continues with his comments regarding the future direction for the state's education system, including the challenges that lie ahead in addressing the needs of public education as well as the expectations for students, campuses, and districts to meet significantly higher performance expectations in 2012. The commissioner also provides updates on school accountability and school finance.

This is a must-see video to really appreciate the commissioner’s understanding of the “real world of Texas public education” and the support he has for service centers. I strongly encourage you to view the commissioner’s speech, and afterwards share your thoughts in the comments area below.  We will discuss this in more detail at the next employee meeting.

During the TASA Midwinter Conference, the Commissioner of Education, Robert Scott, delivered an inspiring speech filled with compassion regarding the issues educators and our children experience with our current and future accountability system. He discusses future directions for the state's education system, and makes reference to the Visioning Institute, including the challenges ahead for the 82nd Texas Legislature in addressing the needs of public education, as well as the expectations for students, campuses, and districts to meet significantly higher performance expectations in 2012. The commissioner also provided updates on policy implications for the stimulus and stabilization funds, school accountability, school finance, and teacher incentives.
