The Social Studies team is committed to providing researched-based professional development opportunities that build teacher capacity to effectively teach the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skill (TEKS) and prepare for success on state assessment instruments for all students in grades K-12. We offer high-quality services to administrators and teachers which promote the development of informed citizens from PreK through Grade 12. Our program also provides technical assistance for the 21st Century classroom. Teachers recognized by state social studies organization
Three teachers from Region 11 schools were recognized by the Texas Council for the Social Studies for outstanding and innovative social studies teaching practices. The teachers received the awards at the organization's annual conference. TCSS is an organization that supports social studies educators and advocates throughout the state and is in its 75th year of operation.
Nancy Palmarchuk, Springtown Middle School, Springtown ISD, was honored with the 2017 Betty Barringer Middle School Teacher of the Year award;
Kimberly Kritch, Braswell High School, Denton ISD, was named 2017 High School Teacher of the Year.
Caroline King, Calhoun Middle School, Denton ISD, was the recipient of the Nova Teacher of the Year award. The Nova Award is awarded to an outstanding teacher within his or her first three years of teaching.
