John Petree was named Deputy Executive Director of Instructional Services for ESC Region 11 in 2013. In this role, he serves as chief academic officer for 580,000 students in schools throughout Region 11. His responsibilities include leadership in the areas of budget, curriculum and instruction, assessment, accountability, federal programs, special education, certification/HR, principal development and supervision, school boards, Districts of Innovation, and blended/online learning. He has executive oversight of Canvas Learning Management System, four statewide Texas Education Agency leadership initiatives, and a regional curriculum management system.
From 2006-2013, Petree was an associate executive director at ESC Region 18 in Midland, Texas, where his responsibilities included operations, curriculum, instruction, accountability, assessment, special programs, federal programs, finance, technology, information systems, human resources, and public relations. During his seven years of employment with ESC Region 18, Petree also held various other positions including consultant, coordinator of the teacher certification program, and director of Administrative Services. He began his career in education as a teacher at Crane Independent School District, Crane Texas, and served as principal in two Texas districts, Glasscock County ISD, Garden City, Texas, and Cotton Center ISD, Cotton Center, Texas.
Petree earned a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Southwestern Assemblies of God University, Waxahachie, Texas. He holds a superintendent certification, mid-management certification, and a certification in elementary education.
